The community of Cazenovia is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Ty Freyer, a beloved son, teammate, and friend, who passed away unexpectedly. Ty was a proud graduate of Cazenovia High School and a gifted athlete who left an indelible mark on the fields he played and the lives he touched.
Ty, a member of the Class of 2020, excelled in football, basketball, and lacrosse. As a standout midfielder on the men’s lacrosse team and captain of the varsity basketball squad his senior year, Ty was known for his competitive spirit, leadership, and loyalty. He played multiple positions in football, including quarterback and running back, always bringing intensity and heart to every game.
After high school, Ty continued his education at Onondaga Community College, pursuing an associate’s degree in Criminal Justice/Police Science. Alongside his studies, he built a career filled with hard work and service, from serving in the U.S. Navy as a Gunner’s Mate to working in hospitality roles across the Thousand Islands region. Most recently, he served as General Manager at the Thousand Island Club in Wellesley Island, NY.
Ty’s dedication, versatility, and hustle extended beyond the classroom and the playing field. He held roles in sales, warehouse logistics, and food service — always showing up with determination, kindness, and a ready smile. In March 2025, PURE Athlete proudly signed Ty as a sponsored athlete, recognizing not only his skills on the field but also his drive and character off of it.
Friends and loved ones remember Ty as someone who lit up every room he walked into. He had a magnetic energy — equal parts humble, funny, and fiercely loyal. Whether wearing his jersey, a uniform, or an apron, Ty approached life with grit and gratitude.
As the community reels from this tragic loss, tributes are pouring in across social media from former teammates, coaches, classmates, and colleagues. Many are wearing his P.U.R.E. Athlete jersey to honor his legacy.
Ty Freyer’s passing leaves a hole in the heart of Cazenovia and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Funeral and memorial service arrangements will be shared by the Freyer family in the coming days.
